Unwanted Pop-ups
I keep getting what appears to be notification (of news items?) popping up in the lower right hand corner of my screen. Is this a function of Firefox and if so can I disable it?

This is likely to be be web push notifications from site(s) you have allowed to send you notifications from. You can revoke the sites from sending you notifications as shown in second link below.
