AI Tab Groups.
Can users turn this new feature off? How much control do users have over the user experience?
How is this an improvement over Pocket, dear departed?

I for one believe Firefox should give users the option to opt out of progressive rollout features such as this. I want NOTHING to do with the illogical, unnecessary hype of generative AI. If Firefox keeps thrusting these idiotic features onto users at a default, then I will consider changing browsers. I am tired of so many tech companies pandering the investor hype of AI, one which has created a bubble that will very soon pop.
Hello! How do you mean to turn off?
Hi All, I haven't installed Firefox 142 yet, so this is based on Firefox 141.
What is this AI suggestion feature?
When it is enabled, an additional button appears at the bottom of the tab group context menu:
That button will check whether any other open tabs make sense to add to that specific tab group. See: How to use AI-enhanced tab groups.
This is not related to replacing Pocket. Pocket provided a method to build a reading list shared by different apps and devices. Tab groups are purely local to your device and meant to make it easier to work with large numbers of tabs.
How to turn it off?
If this feature has been enabled in your Firefox, you can turn it off on the Settings page, General panel, in the Tabs section. Look for the checkbox labeled "Use AI to suggest tabs and a name for tab groups":

The goal of marking a thread as solved is to highlight the steps for the next person with the same question. Did the steps not work for you?
If you want to provide further feedback to Mozilla on this feature, you can use the Submit Feedback option on the Help menu, or go directly to https://connect.mozilla.org/.
I am running 142.0 on Win11 Pro. In Settings/General/Tabs "Use AI to suggest tabs and a name for tab groups" is not shown. This suggests that user control has been removed.
When Mozilla deprecated Pocket, they promised that the functionality would be replaced by enhanced features of Bookmarks, Folders, and Tabs in better alignment of user practices. We're still waiting...
Anyway, it is moot as I don't normally use tab groups, and hence wanted to turn off AI running in the background. Tab groups seem to be another flat organization scheme, whereas tags in Pocket allowed multi-dimensional linking and reference of topics. (By flat I mean this: Beach Photo, do I group it under Beach, or geo-location, or Family, or Sunset, or Date? Where more than on true, which one do I choose?) Bookmark tags may be useful, but are certainly not "upfront and center" in the user experience.
Hence, you may mark this inquiry as closed, but not resolved. Unless you would offer further discussion on the topic of information management post Pocket.
Thank you.
Thank you for the further information.
I didn't use Pocket (except for a little light testing), so I don't have a recommendation on how to replace it. Since tab groups are mainly for organizing open tabs, I agree that those are not what you are looking for.

Please note that we're rolling out this functionality gradually starting with Firefox 141. So if you don’t see the setting on your Firefox, it's very likely that it hasn’t reached yours just yet. It’s not about limiting control (we always want you in control), we’re just being careful with the rollout to ensure everything goes smoothly.
Regarding Pocket deprecation, this is an entirely different thing from this feature. And while it's totally ok to share ideas for replacements here, Mozilla Connect is a much better place for those suggestions, since it's our official feedback platform.
