Since a couple of months Firefox has become quite unusable. (Version is 46.0.1). Problems are: - Menu entries not clickable - Websites buttons not clickable - Maps not zoomable - Cookies 'ok' buttons not clickable (cookies message always on top) - Websites forms not fillable I've tried to update FIrefox, to switch to safe mode, to clean caches and every advice that I've found on the web. But no results. I'm currently using Chrome and I've put FIrefox aside. I'm very annoyed because I've been using Firefox for years, since the day it was reeased. I've supported it and suggested to everybody. At this point I cannot recommend it anymore. Hope it can be fixed. I'm fully available to help :)

Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problems goes away. Firefox Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode that temporarily turns off hardware acceleration, resets some settings, and disables add-ons (extensions and themes).

If Firefox is open, you can restart in Firefox Safe Mode from the Help menu:

  • Click the menu button New Fx Menu, click Help Help-29 and select Restart with Add-ons Disabled.

If Firefox is not running, you can start Firefox in Safe Mode as follows:

  • On Windows: Hold the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
  • On Mac: Hold the option key while starting Firefox.
  • On Linux: Quit Firefox, go to your Terminal and run firefox -safe-mode
(you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)

When the Firefox Safe Mode window appears, select "Start in Safe Mode".

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, theme, or hardware acceleration. Please follow the steps in the Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems article to find the cause.

To exit Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.

I've already tried to get into safe mode and tweak hardware acceleration ad other things. I've tried again. No results, my Firefox is still unusable. Among other problems, it stopped displaying Google image search results. The images are not displayed. With Chrome on the same machine it works ok. Firefox also was ok until a month ago, then these problems began without changes to settings on my part.

Hi, maybe it's time to try a Clean reinstall. This means you remove your Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. This process does not remove your Firefox profile data (such as bookmarks and passwords), since that information is stored in a different location.

To do a clean reinstall of Firefox, please follow these steps: Note: You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.

  1. Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from mozilla.org (or choose the download for your operating system and language from this page) and save the setup file to your computer.
  2. After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (or open the Firefox menu New Fx Menu and click the close button Close 29).
  3. Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    • Windows:
      • C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
      • C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    • Mac: Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
    • Linux: If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see Install Firefox on Linux. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the Firefox download page, simply remove the folder firefox in your home directory.
  4. Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    1. Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    2. Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found here.

WARNING: Do not use a third party uninstaller as part of this process. Doing so could permanently delete your Firefox profile data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. These cannot be easily recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device! See Back up and restore information in Firefox profiles.

Please report back to say if this helped you!

Thank you.

Deleted Firefox, downloaded the latest version and reinstalled from scratch. No joy. Still the same issues: no working 'ok cookies' button, no Google images, no access to my bank, most buttons on websites unusable, etc. Don't know what to try further.

Moreover, my bank's 'enter' button does not work. I have now a fresh FIrefox installation, without add-ons and stuff. I'm working entirely form Chrome now. Firefox unusable. Any other suggestions?

Start your Computer in safe mode with networking. Then start Firefox. Try Safe websites. Is the problem still there?

Problem still here. I've started my win 8.1 in safe mode, I've had to get into msconfig to do it. Tried Firefox, nothing changed. Not working buttons. Not resettable cookies 'ok' buttons. Websites internal search not clickable etc. etc. The same things work with Chrome, on the same pc, at the same time.

Let’s do a full clean re-install; Download Firefox For All languages And Systems {web link} Save the file. Then;

Using your file browser, open the Programs Folder on your computer.

Windows: C:\Program Files C:\Program Files (x86) Mac: Open the "Applications" folder. Linux: Check your user manual.

Do Not remove the profiles folder.

Look for, and rename any Mozilla or Firefox program folders by adding .old to them. Do not rename the Mozilla Thunderbird folder.

After rebooting the computer, run a registry scanner. Then run the installer. If all goes well, remove the OLD folders when you are done.

If there is a problem, start your Computer in safe mode and try again.

I've already reinstalled Firefox and tried in safe mode with no results. The question is: why should I go trough this ordeal again only to (possibly) have Firefox normally working and be able to click buttons on websites? What's wrong with F? I've been using it from the first day, years ago, and recommended to all the people I could, using it on every machine included my phone. Now i'ts been not working for months and I'm not shure whether it is worth recommending any more...
