I transferred my domain name and needed to update the port in order for thunderbird to get my emails. When I did this. thunderbird deleted all my current messages and folders.

Where did they go? How can I get them back????

With IMAP all mail is managed on the server. When changing the server, you'll need to download all mail from the server to your 'Local Folders' account. You can then create a new account for the new server, and upload your local mail to the server if this is desired.

Just changing the existing account will result in loosing your existing messages, as you found out.
