had to download java7.1 because printer would'nt work. how do I install

printer wouldn't print from desktop-said java was not any good. downloaded java7,and don't know how to install to get printer to print from openoffice word.

You use an insecure version of Firefox (3.6.11 instead of 12) on an insecure Linux (Ubuntu 9 instead of 12) with insecure plugins. Install first Ubuntu 12 you can download from http://www.ubuntu.com (English version), then update Firefox, finally update your plugins.

To install Java on Linux, follow Oracle's intructions

thanks for the info,scoobidiver. I thought ubuntu kept up w/ newer versions on it's own. I went to the ubuntu sight and it scared me to death as I haven't a clue how to begin to do all that typed-in stuff. Seems like I should find someone who's comfortable doing this?
