how do i save changed passwords?

For security, I must change my saved passwords to certain accounts occasionally. Ff doesn't perceive the new password and ask if it would like to be saved. It keeps filling in the old one. I've deleted the web addresses and passwords in "preferences but this doesn't produce a new prompt

Hey evsworld,

Go to Tools >Options >Security tab click on Saved passwords. This will give you a list of sites that you have saved a password for. Just find your site and delete that entry.

There is a lot of useful information in this article about the Firefox Password Manager. It should answer any other questions you might have.

You can also remove the cookies from that site to make the site forget you if you've created a remember me cookie by going to Tools > Options > Privacy > Cookies: "Show Cookies"

Hopefully this helps!

Thanks Matt. I didn't phrase my question clearly. I have already tried this but Ff does not ask if I want to save the new changed password (I do!), even after I've erased the site from the list.

Try this - the Saved Password Editor extension. It allows you to edit existing passwords in the Password Manager dialog window, and add new ones manually.
