Emails have down loaded without headings and sometimes without text

DavidJBell

I have Thunderbird 154.0 (64-bit) on Windows 11. When I opened Thunderbird this morning, it originally gave a message that the connection to the email server had failed. Before I had time to look into this, it downloaded a number of emails without headings and sometimes without text. However, Thunderbird on my Android phone, I discovered subsequently, had downloaded all the messages correctly. The problem seems to have now corrected itself for subsequent emails, but is there some way I can force the download of these previous incomplete emails? Also, this is a very recent update to Thunderbird - I think it was installed in the last few days. Is it a problem with the update and is it likely to occur again?

- Who is your email provider?

- Is this a POP3 account or IMAP?

- If POP3, check the setting <Account Settings | (the account in question) | Server Settings | Leave messages on server> - what is it set to?

- If POP3, check the setting <Account Settings | (the account in question) | Server Settings | Fetch headers only> - what is it set to?

Further suggestions depend on your answers to the above, so let us know what you find and we'll take it from there.

Hi Lin This problem has not recurred for a couple of days now, so that I am less bothered about it than I was and, as I said, I do have access to the two or three that did not download the header or the text. Unless it happens again, it is not worth wasting time on - but thank you for thinking about it. In case you want to think further about it, the answers to your question are that the provider is btinternet.com and the accounts are IMAP. David

If you had said it was a POP3 account I would have had you check it's "Fetch Headers Only" setting, but there's nothing equivalent for IMAP. So, there goes that theory.

Otherwise, I could suggest checking on the web mail page, and if those weird messages look OK there, move them to another folder. They will then sync with your local computer, presumably intact. Meanwhile, delete the earlier, malformed copies on your computer (in INBOX?) and then repair that folder (right-click the folder name in the Folders List and choose <Properties | Repair Folder>.) You can then move the newly-downloaded copies back to the Inbox if you like.
