This is strange since you don't seem to use the Quick Filter toolbar. Try a R-click on Inbox > Properties > Repair Folder ...

A screen shot of your Thunderbird window when the Inbox folder is "missing" would be helpful. I presume that you open messages in new tabs without closing the tabs after having read the messages. After a while the tab bar displays so many tabs that the "mail tab" with accounts and folders disappears on the left corner of the tab bar since all new tabs are added at th right corner of the tab bar. If you want to return to the Inbox folder(s) in the mail tab click on downward arrow v in the right corner and select Inbox in the list of open tabs. Or simple hit the Ctrl +1 keyboard shortcut ...

Thanks for your quick response! i don't leave many tabs open, so understand your explanation, but it happens when i may only have the inbox and sent tabs open. i can take a screen shot the next time it happens

If you open folders like Inbox or Sent in new tabs and from there you open a message in a new tab you will no longer see the folder pane in the new message tabs.

so this is what it looks like when it happens

I don't understand your problem: Your screenshot shows the folder pane on the left but this doesn't prove that your Inbox has disappeared. There are too many of your personal folders to see all folders in the folder pane. Obviously you have selected an Inbox- claude@ folder but it is "drowned" by so many other folders. And if you scrolled a bit to the top of the pane you might discover your Inbox. Anyway, there is something strange in this image which you didn't mention: your Inbox contains 5,590 messages, yet the message list in the thread pane is empty!

Yes, that is the problem, the messages just don't appear. i usually mess with it by navigating away, then back and they are restored. i usually don't have more than 5 or 6 tabs open at once, so this can happen with just 2 tabs open - the Inbox and sent

Thanks and done...let's see what happens!

I did the repair, but still an issue. when i navigate away to another tab and come back, it seems fine. i don't think i'm up against a storage size problem on the server.
