Cant install another dictionary. Downloaded but doesnt install in Linux Mint 17

I use Linux Mint 17 and Thunderbird mail. The only language installed is English US which I don't want. I need English British and the Spanish Español dictionary. I have downloaded them and installed them but they don't appear in my emails. I must be doing something wrong. Any help please. Thanks in advance
