Phishing or real?

Euclid Alexandria

Received emails from Mozilla saying that my account, Firefox and everything related to it will be deleted end of October. For now I've reported that as phishing but I'm not sure.

Please advise.

Hi Euclid, I haven't heard of these messages yet, but maybe more reports will come in.

Meanwhile, if you haven't signed in recently, you might want to just take a quick look at the Connected Services to make sure there aren't any unexpected devices there:

https://accounts.firefox.com/settings#connected-services

More info: Remove a synced device from your Mozilla account

Potentially real.

Can you check if that looks and sounds like what's pictured in Mozilla account deletion due to inactivity ?

Thanks for the quick feedback, appreciated.

The odd part about that email is that it was received via my Outlook account which I use exclusively for private matters. For all other sites (gaming, forums etc.) including Firefox/Mozilla, I use my google account which is linked to gmail.

Also I not quite understand what "inactivity" means here. I'm using Firefox every day. Moreover I have checked my account page for unexpected devices and found nothing odd there.

Regards,

Euclid

Hi Euclid, the article jbr linked mentions this scenario: some people have more than one Mozilla account, their active one, and a forgotten one.

If you search your Outlook mail, are there other messages from Mozilla that might explain why that account exists? Maybe it was just for the newsletter, or possibly for a service you no longer use or care about.

Anyway, if you do not need the one with an Outlook address for any services linked to that account, and especially if you don't remember the password, it makes sense to let it go.

Thanks again, and you are right. I've checked again for connected devices and found a 2nd Firefox connected to a 6 yrs old device (a hard drive of a PC that does not exist anymore). Now I've deleted that connection and will wait whether another email pops up.

Regards,

Euclid
