Firefox Issues After Update
I don't know what you're doing but EVERYTIME I do an update lately, something goes wrong. Today after update, my STGs are affected and ALL ARE GONE. I do NOT believe this is their fault. And you put this dang auto Startpage when launching window, I did NOT ask for that. I am so pissed, how do I get them all back? I had things I was working on that were very important. What else did you add to FF that I don't know about? I don't want your updates anymore. You screwed me big time. And I don't want the extensions YOU think I should have: Google, eBay, Bing, etc. wasting my space. I'm not the only one either, seen lots of complaints.
HOW DO I GET THOSE TABS BACK??????

STG = Simple Tab Groups?
It sounds like there were a lot of changes in your Firefox. So many that I wonder whether Firefox restarted in a different profile. Did Firefox mention having to create a new profile or performing a Refresh or Tune-up?
If you haven't already, could you close out of Firefox and do a normal Windows shutdown and restart to complete any pending updates and release any file locks.
Then try the steps in the following article to investigate other profiles on your system: Recover user data missing after Firefox update.
Yes, STG. FF did not mention having to create another profile, it didn't even say to restart, I just did it or else it will just crash when I have a zillion groups/tabs open.. I have 2 profiles: present and another that says default and modifed Aug 2024, the last time I had some trouble.
I restarted after update a few times. I just did a full shutdown then start, no difference.
Now my STG's have #s in front of every open web page, i.e., @1.#7:i7. I get these on occasion but now they're not going away. I've read it's FF that's causing lots of people issues.
I thought about importing my backup from just before update, but I don't feel I'll get the groups back in the same way or I might mess it up. A post stated to uncheck the erase and do only a few groups (I guess) at a time, but I have an enormous amount of groups which will take forever.
I'm pissed about seeing the "built-in" extensions that that I disable temporarily in CCleaner but they always come back. Today, FF put a block and can't do that for "Add-ons Search Detection." I also can't do that for "New Tab." Another example of FORCING me to use their extensions. Why can't Firefox let the USER DECIDE what they want? I do NOT want or need a reminder of what's out there, I have what I need and do NOT want all this extra fluff. It's becoming bloatware and I'm looking for other browsers. Does Librewolf have less BS in their browser regarding these kind of things?
I wanted to send this to you before shutting down. I closed the tab, tried to reopen it, and now it won't do that either. This is BS I don't have time for...

Was that data you recovered from before? It sounds like extension storage might have gotten corrupted, so instead of showing a text title, you get a number that was previously linked to some text. But that's just a guess. It would make more sense to check with the STG author or community since they presumably have seen that before.

What exactly does CCleaner do to Firefox or your Firefox extension settings files? Since this and the above problem occurred at the same time, I wonder whether the extensions.json file or another extension-related file got corrupted.

You mean Ctrl+Shfit+T or right-clicking a tab and clicking Reopen Closed Tab didn't work? I don't know why that would fail.
Just an FYI - but I have had very similar issues recently where firefox says I need to update, and it says it will restart everything. Well, sorry to say, it does not, and like this person - I have a lot of work and web sites in play, and I loose all those links. I'm going to either go back to Explorer or Chrome - as I'm done with FF and their updates. This has happened to me a number of times, and I'm tired of all the work that goes into fixing problems FF causes with their buggy updates.
my desktop computer took a big dump on me about a week ago and every is fouled up now - usually this sort of thing can be cured by removing that g.d. MS Edge virus that keeps reloading during most MS back-ups. Now all my tab groups are missing and i don't know how to get them back again or even know what file they would be in. i understand there is a way to restore a previous FF set-up, but am not sure how that works. i tried restoring a previous session from MS (Windows 11), but that only goes back a few days and ends up w/ an error message about other anti-virus program interfering, but have all them off that I know of (Malware-bytes and Tweaking). I tried using the "restore" using Windows, but that only goes back a few days ago even w/ the "see additional restores" is checked.
Please, can anyone help me get back all my tabs and groups? i do a lot of research online and had dozens of groups and hundreds, if not thousands, of tabs which just vanished.
i made no changes just before this and have no idea what the problem could be. also, the computer is running very slowly, about 1/10 the usual speed, when i do open a new.tab. Any help/suggestions re. this mess would be greatly appreciated! Thank you, Wolfgang [edited phone# from public support forum]
