Auto completion of Recipient Adress does not work
Hi, since the last update 3 days ago, the recipients adress in the "to"-field is not completed automatically anymore. E.g.: I write the beginning of an E-Mail adress such as: "michael". Normally, thunderbird should offer a drop-down menu with optional adresses from my adress-book, such as: michael.miller@miller.com, jimmymichael@googlemail.com, michael@jones.de... and then I can select the appropiate address. This doesn't work anymore. I restarted the program and the pc - it still doesn't work. Could you help me? Maybe I can uninstall the last update of Thunderbird? ' Thanx a lot, Sven

using cardbook addon?
Then you will want to update to version 54.6
I have the same issue. I think it happened after I rebooted my PC which was a day or two after the update to 78.5.1. I think it was working correctly for the day or two after the update and before the reboot, but am not positive. It has the same problem if I start with add-ons disabled. I don't know what cardbook is...
I can access the address books normally and can compose a message from the address book normally, but no help from the address books if I select "write" from the Thunderbird main window.
(Update) I tried to add an email address to a mailing list I have. I couldn't get autocomplete to suggest an address, and, when I typed the address manually, the edit was not saved, no matter what I tried.

I had the same problem. The problem was a wrong setting of LDAP-directoryServer in Options>Adressing. Solution: in about:config - Set ldap_2.autoComplete.directoryServer to standard.
"about:config - Set ldap_2.autoComplete.directoryServer to standard" is a good idea, but my version 68 was already set up that way, or at least the "default" setting is. when Ubuntu finally provides version 78, will this problem go away?
