When I compose an email, if any paragraph begins with the word FROM then when I save the letter a ">" symbol gets automatically placed before FROM (like >FROM). If I go back into editing mode and remove it, it still keeps coming back when I save or send the message. It is a nuisance.

save the message how?

Either with the Save button in the top menu or automatically when the message is sent.

I can't reproduce that.

I can not reproduce it either, using the daily en_US build of Thunderbird. I do understand what you are seeing, it occurs in the storage of mails as From has a special meaning at the beginning of a line proceeded by a blank line. But you are not supposed to see it.

So lets try safe mode (restart with add-ons disabled from the help menu).
