Blank boxes where there should be links

In firefox most my clickable button links appear as strange little boxes with numbers in them (see screenshot). They function normally but just don't appear as they should. I tried to disable the "no script" add on and change some browser settings but nothing works. My chrome doesn't have this problem so it's only an issue with firefox.

Also many videos don't work. They do on youtube and similar sites but not on yahoo or veehd (divx) etc. I don't know if these issues are related.

Huge thanks if anyone can help.

It worked! All my icons are visible now. I thought I might never see them again. Thanks for the help Corel.

Any ideas on why many vids (including yahoo media, divx and others) only work in my chrome? Youtube and and similar sites work in both of my browsers but that's it. I disabled ad blocker and tried a few other things but still no go.

Missing icons are usually supplied by a font that is downloaded from the server (@font-face) as you might see by little boxes that show the hex code of the characters instead. If you have a font installed that covers this Unicode range then you may see a real (CJK) character and not the little box with the CSS code.

Make sure that you allow pages to choose their own fonts.

  • Tools > Options > Content : Fonts & Colors > Advanced: [X] "Allow pages to choose their own fonts, instead of my selections above"

You can check the gfx.downloadable_fonts.enabled pref on the about:config page and make sure that it is set to true (if necessary double-click the line to toggle its value).

That could be because you have an old Shockwave Flash plugin.

  • Shockwave Flash 13.0 r0

You can find the latest Flash player versions for Firefox on this page:

You can find the installation path of all plugins on the about:plugins page.
