Why is firefox UI so sluggish and slow, regardless the machine that I'm using (and after clean fireefox to the default)?

Firefox runs really slow. It's UI freezes, takes some time to respond. It's not nearly as smooth as Chrome or Opera on the same hardware. It's slow on every computer that I tried, even with Clean Installation. Sometime it takes up to 2 seconds just to open a tab. I feel that the browse cannot handle the modern internet. looks like it's about Gecko. I remember back in 2011 when Opera was really slow over Presto. Then they changed the engine to Webkit/Blink, now it flies like a plane. I tried it with Win10, WinXP and Ubuntu.

Is there any prevision about improvements in firefox performance?
