Hello

Firstly, I have a DELL Inspiron 530S Desktop with Linux Mint 10 installed and Firefox 7.0.1.

The problem is: switched on the pc today but found that 'History' -> 'Show All History,' but, only 'Today's' searches were revealed - no previous record of the past days, weeks...! Though, 'Bookmark' hasn't changed, and all is still there.

I can see no reason for this happening, except that I've had some trouble getting online recently via the ISP TalkTalk. I don't want to try anything myself to regain the History records because it might overwrite, and I'd lose everything.

Any advice, how to recover History? In simple steps, please.

Deleted History cannot be recovered.

For the future, check the following things to make sure that your History does not get deleted automatically

-> Make sure that you are not running Firefox in permanent Private Browsing - Use Firefox without saving history mode.

  • You enter Private Browsing mode if you select: Firefox > Options > Privacy > History: Firefox will: "Never Remember History"
  • To see all History and Cookie settings, choose: Firefox > Options > Privacy, choose the setting Firefox will: Use custom settings for history
  • Select: [x] "Remember my Browsing History"
  • Deselect: [ ] "Always use Private Browsing mode"
  • Deselect: [ ] "Clear History when Firefox closes"

-> IF you use -> Delete browsing, search and download history on Firefox feature, DO NOT select Browsing and Download History

-> IF you use Privacy Cleanup softwares, DON'T SELECT FIREFOX IN ITS SETTINGS.

  • These softwares can be responsible for Deleting your Firefox Settings.

May not be related to your problem but do the following:

-> Update Firefox to the latest version 10.0.1

-> Update All your Firefox Plugins -> https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/plugincheck/

  • When Downloading Plugins Update setup files, Remove Checkmark from Downloading other Optional Softwares with your Plugins (e.g. Toolbars, McAfee, Google Chrome, etc.)

I think the problem was due to my watching too many films on You Tube which over-filled the cache, and caused History to be suddenly dumped. Perhaps I should wipe the cache more often? I'll keep your guidance notes for reference.
