lost browsing and download history
I couldn't log into a site and it was suggested to 'clear cache' as follows: - settings - privacy and security - cookies and site data - clear browsing data BUT only cookies and temp cache sites. By mistake I believe I ticked browsing and download history too, and looks as though it is irrersible? Now I no longer automatically get all the little boxes I used to get for usual regular log ins (eg The Times, Meteo, banks, email etc) I think I can use 'add shortcuts' and re-enter these, but any other suggestions? With many thanks.

Sheila, unfortunately you cannot directly undo the deletion.
If you have a backup of the profile folder that was manually made before the deletion then you could restore the "places.sqlite" file from it, as this file stores the browsing and download history.
The only other options I can think of are possibly restoring from a synced device that still has the data, or restoring from a backup file created by the new backup system. But these two options would first require you to have set up either Firefox Sync or the new backup system. They wouldn't happen automatically.
Many thanks for such a complete and rapid reply - appreciate this. Just going to try. If no luck, will revert to using shortcuts button to reinstall what I want. Again, many thanks for your time and help.
