Folder list not updating

Jonas Möller Nielsen replied
rr12

I use apple mail on my phone and Thunderbird on my PC and my (IMAP) email provider is GMX. I recently added a couple of sub-folders to an existing folder and changed the names of couple of others (in the same main folder). I did those changes on my phone. However, those changes are not reflected on my PC. The folders with changed names are in the folder list but greyed out but the new folders are missing. If I click on a greyed out folder it is empty. I've tried several ways to force the list to update but, so far have been unsuccessful.

What is causing my problem and how can I fix it?

Thanks for any advice.

Servers tend to use Unix or Linux. Apple operating systems are derived from Unix. Those operating systems see file name with case. Windows does not. So were your changes something like mine to Mine

Chosen Solution

For the new folders, right click on the account name in Thunderbird's folder pane, select "Subscribe" from the drop-down menu, and check the new folders.

This situation did not apply to my problem. Thanks anyway!

I have this problem too. Many folders are greyed out, and some of them are just empty and I can not drag any e-mail to it, or I can not select it altogether. I can see the folder in other e-mail clients on the same computer. I use macOS 26. I had this same problem in a mail client called Postbox years ago. But this inability to show folders properly forced me away to a client that could show mail and folders in a reliable manner. It surprises me that Thunderbird can not handle this, when Apple Mail, Airmail and GyazMail all three perfectly well manages to show my folders and e-mail in a correct manner.

Have you managed to solve the problem yet?

Jonas, are the folders associated with Airmail in any way?

I have created them in Airmail, but works fine in any other e-mail client. It is just Thunderbird that cannot show them properly.
