menu tabs become unresponsive

It happens frequently that menu tabs File, Edit, View Message, Help etc become unresponsive and upon clicking on them no sub menu opens to scroll. Once I close thunderbird and restart, problem disappears temporaily only to happen after 15-20 min again. I will greatly appreciate any help/suggestion. Thanks

I tried that, unfortunately it does not make any difference.
