Thunderbird goes into a WAIT state every 10 or so minutes

My Thunderbird account has a hierarchy of some 8 userids. Each userid has 10 to 30 folders. When I work with Thunderbird to write an email, it goes into a wait state for a minute or two every few (10 or so) minutes. Is this a known bug/problem? Or is it a hardware problem? How can I solve the problem? Or should I use a different system (The technician suggested I just dump it and go to Google Chrome or something. It is extremely frustrating. Thanks. dov@gilor.com
