The menu tools tab has been moved to the side of the window. How can I move this to the top like it was previously? I set browser.preferences.inContent to false on the about:config page which moved it to the top for 38 ESR. But when I recently changed to 45 ESR, the tools moved to the side. I checked browser.preferences.inContent and it is still set to false. I also toggled it to true and back to false but that didn't help. How do I get this back on top in 45 ESR?

browser.preferences.inContent was deprecated around Firefox 40 or so.

The browser.preferences.inContent is no longer supported in Firefox 42.0 and later, so it is not possible to open a standalone window by setting this preference to false. This preference was only meant to be temporary since Firefox 38.0 whether this preference was changed by user or not.

You could try the Classic Theme Restorer extension.

You can reset the browser.preferences.inContent pref to have it removed from the about:config page on the next start of Firefox.
