I want searches to be in Yahoo, not Ask (which I want off my toolbar).

When firefox updated recently, Ask appeared on my toolbar and became my default search engine. I absolutely hate using Ask as it does not perform as well as Yahoo. I have Yahoo selected in the preferences in Firefox as my default search engine. I selected it in the search window next to the website address window. Yet, whenever I search anything it is in Ask. I want it gone. I am in school and it has become a huge annoyance using Ask. How do I permanently get rid of Ask and return to having Yahoo as my default search engine.

Hi tgreenhow,

It sounds like Ask.com has completely hijacked your PC. How frustrating!

It might be that the Ask toolbar was quietly installed while you were installing a different piece of software.

This article has useful instructions on how to remove the Ask toolbar and reset your Firefox profile: http://malwaretips.com/blogs/remove-ask-toolbar-and-search/

Could you please give those instructions a try and let us know how you get on?

Hope it helps.

Bookmark and use this; Mozilla Search Reset {web link} This add-on is very simple: on installation, it backs up and then resets your search preferences and home page to their default values, and then uninstalls itself. This affects the search bar, URL bar searches, and the home page.

Thank you so much. I can't believe how hard it was to get that information. Very unscrupulous of Ask. Thank you for fixing my problem. Cheers to you!!

Since there were two answers posted on the same day, from two different contributors, I've marked the first reply as the solution. Please post back if this is not correct.
