In the last few days, when I click on some web pages, I suddenly get full a or part screen popup. This has never happened before. They're obviously sponsored links. How do I disable please?

Start Firefox in Safe Mode to check if one of the extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) or if hardware acceleration is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Appearance).

  • Do NOT click the Reset button on the Safe Mode start window.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.
Please scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
All these programs have free versions.

Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

You can also do a check for a rootkit infection with TDSSKiller.

Hello Glennwaus,

Firefox is meant to be a free web browser that allows all people to surf the Internet conveniently and therefore does not display sponsored popups.

This issue can happen if you installed applications or toolbars containing adware that forces these popups and advertisements to show. Check the applications you installed recently when this issue started.

You can aslo try using the popup blocker to avoid such inconveniences.

I hope that helps

Have a nice day

Thanks to you both. I have the popup blocker enabled, but I'm still getting them Ahnsar. I'll try the malware finders thank you Cor el.

You're welcome.

Note that your System Details List show this extension that looks suspicious: GreatArcadeHits Add-on 1.0.0

In case you haven't tracked it down yet, you can disable and usually remove troublesome extensions on the Add-ons page. Either:

  • Ctrl+Shift+a
  • orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons

In the left column, click Extensions.

If the Remove button is missing, this typically indicates that the extension was installed externally and can be removed through the Windows Control Panel, Uninstall a Program. I suggest clicking the Installed On column heading to bring the most recent additions to the top. This also helps you determine whether a program you wanted included undisclosed or unnoticed tag-along programs, which you can get rid of now before they cause problems.

Can you get rid of it?

Thanks everybody! After doing a malware scan with no result, I went to safe mode an chose a complete reset, as well as removing add-ons and my problem seems to be solved., Thanks again to you all. Cheers, Glenn.
