from today I cannot download my gmail to Thunderbird, I'm getting always here below error code:

“400 invalid_request” or “Access blocked: App sent an invalid request,” it means the app uses an authorization method that Google doesn't allow. Google has safe ways for you to sign in and share your Google Account data with third-party apps and sites.

Please let me know how to proceed.

I've been using TB on 2 of my smaller email accounts for several months and really like the way it operates. I'm nearly ready to add my main email account (web-based Outlook) to TB but have one final question. If I add the account to TB, give it a fair try, and just don't like the results, can I simply delete that account from TB and go back to accessing it via its website? I have confirmed that POP is disabled for my Outlook account so I understand all email remains on the server until I remove it. I also understand TB would leave the email from the account on the same server, again pending some action I might take to remove it. So it would seem that I could delete the account from TB and revert to web-based access for the account, just as I'm doing now, and the folders and saved emails would still be there. Am I overlooking anything?

Old computer: Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit Thunderbird 115.10.0 32-bit (Don't know why it's 32-bit version on a 64-bit computer or whether that's relevant)

The Profiles folder is here (with 5 profiles): C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles

The new computer is Windows 11 Pro, 64-bit I just installed Thunderbird (V115.10.0 (64-bit) on the new computer.

On the new computer, the Profiles folder is here: C:\Users\<User>\AppData\Roaming\Thunderbird\Profiles

I followed the directions here https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/moving-thunderbird-data-to-a-new-computer

I basically took the Profiles folder that came with the Thunderbird installation, renamed it (Profiles.orig) and copied in the Profiles folder from the old computer in its place. When I start up Thunderbird, I get this error message:

           Your Thunderbird profile cannon be loaded.  It may be missing or inaccessible

What am I doing wrong? I've updated Thunderbird on the old computer and copied the Profiles folder over to the new computer again. Same result.

Could it be 1. an issue with the user name on the old computer is different than the one I'm using on the new computer? 2. All files on the new computer are set up as local (the user on the old computer started out as a Microsoft user but I made it local so as not to have to use OneDrive).

I'm stumped. Any help will be very much appreciated. If you need any more details I'm happy to provide them.

My mail is hosted on Hostpresto. Yesterday 'someone' (it wasn't me. I was in bed) gained access to my cPanel and email and deleted my only email address, then installed their own. All my mail gone. I was stupid though - I opened another email address with the same name as the old one and started Thunderbird on the pc. Of course, it synchronised to the empty folders!

Luckily I have another instance of TB running on another machine and it's all there - I am not internet connected there!

How do I bring the folders containing all the old mail from the 'safe' machine's appdata/roaming/thunderbird location to what will be my 'working machine' without it immediately synching to the server and deleting it all?

Since installing Ubuntu 23.10 on my new desktop pc, Thunderbird is failing to see the account details in .thunderbird I copied all the files from my backup into a new account directory (/home/cfi/.thunderbird/y4xyxmli.default), a technique that has worked many times in the past, but not this time. Previously, thunderbird has simply taken the settings from the backed up files and used those to connect to my organisation's mail server. Any ideas? How can I force Thunderbird to read the old account settings?

Hi, I am running Thunderbird v. 115.9.0 on Windows 10 on my desktop. I have been forced by Rogers in Canada to migrate my internet service from their legacy internet service to Rogers Ignite with its Ignite (Comcast) gateway. My email accounts were supposed to be migrated automatically, but, for reasons unknown, were not, and a tech support representative had to migrate them from the old legacy service to Ignite. After that was done, I opened Thunderbird, and was asked to authenticate my 2 Rogers/Yahoo email accounts, one of which is my primary account, the other a secondary account. I was asked to authenticate the secondary account first, which went well. I then clicked on my primary account in the left-hand pane and was again asked to authenticate, but the dialogue box showed it was for the secondary account. Thinking that this secondary account authentication was just being repeated for no particular reason, and not thinking that the email address in the authentication request box could be changed, I clicked Agree. My primary account is now showing the exact same emails as are listed in the secondary account, and I'm extremely concerned that I will not be able to recover all of the thousands of emails in my primary account, many of which are business-related. When I log into my primary account on the Rogers/Yahoo mail website, the emails in the primary account are still showing, so I know they are still on the Rogers IMAP server. However, I really want to continue to use my primary account on Thunderbird. I'm not sure if I should delete the primary account and recreate it - the Rogers support tech said that deleting the account may result in an issue where my current password for a re-created primary account may not be recognized, so I'm leaving things as they are until I hear back. It the advice is to not delete and recreate the account, what steps can I take to recover the emails on my primary account in Thunderbird. I just installed Thunderbird on a computer, current version, and it didn't update my address book or contact list off the server. How do I do this manually as I could not find something saying to "download contacts" or anything like that. There is the "Directory Server:" option but I don't know what that is or how to use it. I didn't do that on my other Thunderbird installation (Work Computer). My email server is Mail.com if that matters. Thanks

My email provider required me to migrate to a new server and advised setting up a new Account in Thunderbird. I did this and it successfully imported most or all of my stored emails from the old server. However, the import only preserved the first level of sub-folders (I have up to 3 levels). If I right-click on my email account in Thunderbird and choose Subscribe, I can still see the sub-folder structure there. Is there any way I can restore it so that it (a) shows the full collection of sub- and sub-sub folders in the tree; and (b) locates the correct emails in each sub-folder? If not, I face days of work to recreate sub-folders and move emails to their correct location. Thanks for any help!

I had a functioning thunderbird, but do to my host provider I had to change some of the configuration (had (owl) suffix). This left 2 profiles. The new profile wouldn't work until I deleted the original. I did a save so I have all the files, now which ones need to be restored. ( a full file backup prior to adding new profile so all org profile files are available)

A profile directory displays all of the folders, 2 files for each folder a MSF and an MBX. Some also have a file type of File.

Which has to be copied, will the folders be created with the copy or do I need to create them in thunderbird first ?

Hi,

I've recently upgraded to the 91 version and the order of the account folders have changed. i.e. the email folders and the off-line personal folders are no longer in their previous order. How would I change the order.

I tried moving them, but they return to their original position after every reboot of thunderbird 91.

Additionally, is there any good docs about folder paths to learn more about archiving or default settings.

I recently installed version 102 and I am having an issue with password manager. I need to enter my password each time I want to check my email. If I check the box for password manager to save the password, I get the incorrect password error message. If I enter my password but do not check the save password box, I can retrieve my email. If I leave Thunderbird open I can retrieve email without reentering my password. If I exit Thunderbird, restart and retrieve my email, it asks me to enter my password again. I looked in security settings - My saved password box is empty and I can not add any accounts to it. I have tried deleting key3.db, cert8.db, logins.json to no avail. Any ideas?

I want to move Thunderbird local folders to an external drive (Seagate). I am working on a desktop computer with Windows 10. Where are the Thunderbird local folders? The files don't display anywhere in Windows explorer. I am able to transfer all other files such as jpg. and pdf. files from the desk top computer to the external drive by dragging and dropping, but I can't locate the Thunderbird local email files so as to be able to drag and drop.

I've been happily using Thunderbird for email for many years. Recently, the gmail OAuth2 requirement has made my POP3 accounts quit working. Currently on 38.5 for Windows 10.

Following various posts, I've tried to convert two specific email accounts to imap, and things are not going well.

My primary email is already imap and works fine. I've tried multiple times to convert the other two, and my current state is I've deleted those two accounts entirely (via Account Actions). When I try to install Existing Account, I eventually get to the point where the server config seems correct, but hitting "Done" results in the above message. I'd be surprised if imap.gmail.com can only support one email address. The emails are named differently, and use different passwords. Imap is enabled via browser based access to both accounts.

Incoming server imap.gmail.com:993 Outgoing smtp.gmail.com:465
