I appreciate the functionality of adding outgoing email addresses to an address book. It makes it easier to auto populate in the future when drafting emails.

I have completed the very simple steps to select the box to add outgoing email address to my "Collected Addresses" book.

However, I have noticed that the system will add the outgoing email address to BOTH my "Collected Addresses" and "Gmail Contacts".

While I want the email address as "Collected", I do not necessarily want as part of my "Gmail" contacts.

Is this a setting or a bug?

Thanks

Hello,

I am having problem with connecting imap inbox folder using Office 365 mail server with user who likes using TB.

After adding mailbox to TB it says: The current operation on 'Inbox' did not succeed. The mail server for account xx@abc.org responded: INBOX doesn't exist.

I can't even see the Inbox folder in the menu 'subscribe/folder list.

Recently we migrated to Exchange online and after importing old emails by outlook export/import this error showed up and inbox stopped syncing.

I believe it must be issue with folder name in O365 which I tried to reset to default but it didn't help.

I also tried this https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/questions/1276757

Any idea how to fix this?

Thank you in advance.

Hello, I've been using Thunderbird since it first came out may years ago and have been a satisfied user. Sometime in the past year, after one of the Thunderbird updates, Thunderbird became EXTERMELY slow to open. It takes over a minute. I have looked for solutions here for the past year...no luck (I've read through most all of them here, that have to do with slowness of Thunderbird opening, as well as on Reddit). I've tried basic troubleshooting e.g. clearing Thunderbird cache, increasing cache to huge size. I've seen references to the slowness being related to "multiple calendars". I don't use calendars on Thunnderbird and went as far as to delete/disable the default one that was there. Still no improvement. I know its a Thunderbird specific problem since:

a. I don't have this slowness opening any other program on my Mac (opening it or using it) b. I don't have a problem with performance of Thunderbird once it finally opens c. It all started in 2022 immediately after one of the Thunderbird updates.

I am on: Mac Air M1, Ventura 13.2, 16 GB Ram Thunderbird 102.14.0 (64-bit)

I hate to ditch Thunderbird after using it all these years and being a very early user since it came out, but I am at wits end. Any help is appreciated. Thanks for any help in advance!

Blank email tabs following Thunderbird crash during close

Thunderbird crashed during a normal close (https://crash-stats.mozilla.org/report/index/3c0242b0-1a55-4eba-9f02-4a7bc0240126) and since then when I open Thunderbird, tabs appear for the messages I had open at the time of the crash, but they are all blank, and the tabs themselves are all empty. It is as if they are place-holders that are then never populated. I've attached a screen shot showing some of these tabs, with the crash report tab open and displayed.

About 1-2 months ago I reindexed folders due to mail apparently being missing and this resulted in a huge number of messages that had previously been dealt with becoming marked as unread again.

Ideally I would like the blank tabs to be reinstated and to be able to carry on working on my email from where I left off, but if this is not possible, I need to be able to identify the emails that were open in the tabs to be able to pick up the pieces. This is crucially important as I operate multiple accounts and it would be impossible for me to re-establish state any other way, especially in view of the earlier problem with email becoming marked as unread again. That would condemn me to needing to re-open many thousands of email items to identify those that may need action.

I renamed global-messages-db.sqlite which has been recreated and rebuilt but nothing has changed. The rebuilt file is significantly smaller than the original and if this implies that there has been data loss, I would rather reinstate the original file, if it is safe to do so.

My best guess is that the tabs are defined within history.sqlite and I have made a copy of this file but superficially it appears to contain a lot more than just tabs and it has been updated since the crash.

The most recent change I made to my Thunderbird configuration before the crash was the addition of the British-English dictionary.

The next most recent change to my Thunderbird configuration was the addition of a Proton Mail account using Proton Mail Bridge. I am accessing this account on behalf of someone who has sustained serious injuries and is unable to access it themselves. If this added account or Proton Mail Bridge is implicated in the crash in any way, I would prefer to remove the account and the Bridge software.

Many thanks in advance for your help and guidance with this problem.

On 2023 December 29 Friday, as part of a general upgrade of my desktop computer, Thunderbird was upgraded to version 115-5-5.0-1~deb12u1amd54.deb. Since then however whenever I try to open Thunderbird I always receive the following message: Thunderbird is already running, but is not responding. To use Thunderbird, you must first close the existing Thunderbird process, restart your device, or use a different profile. Furthermore, on the label of the desktop I use for Thunderbird label lists two windows open on it which are quoted in the box below. Password required Mozilla Thunderbird - Close Thunderbird In spite of the foregoing on the screen there is no window to enter a password nor Thunderbird to be closed. As for the one window that does appear, the first box above, I find its first assertion inordinately obfuscating under the circumstances. Thunderbird not only had not been installed but was obviously but also was incapable of responding to anything. I consequently doubt strongly that the text in the top box has anything to do the the problem I am having with the inability of Thunderbird to open. However, every time I try to open Thunderbird these three lock files are created: .parent lock cookies.sqlite-wal Telemetry.FailedProfileLocks.txt The first two I delete before every attempt to open Thunderbird. The third I leave alone, not understanding what it means or what purpose it serves. It is updated every time I try. I also tried without success to open Thunderbird in safe mode. The location and name of thunderbird in my laptop is directory ~/mozilla/thunderbird/9vgk89rr.default. The profiles.ini file is located in directory ~/.thunderbird and reads as follows: [InstallFDC34C9F024745EB] Default=/home/ken/mozilla/thunderbird/9vgk89rr.default [Profile0] Name=ken IsRelative=0 Path=/home/ken/mozilla/thunderbird/9vgk89rr.default Default=1 [General] StartWithLastProfile=1 Version=2 This current arrangement dates from 2021, but 9vgk89rr.default directory for Thunderbird dates from about 2006. It contains three of my most used email addresses, and all sorts of essential and valuable information. I need badly to have access to my Thunderbird as soon as possible and would appreciate greatly receiving information as to how to do so. Regards, Ken Heard

Hello there We have read the message. We try to help Follow Up!!

You write that you can no longer send outgoing messages.

Try viewing your outgoing server details in your Thunderbird Software.

These settings are set as they are normally set for use.

After an update, some miscommunication could have arisen, resulting in a situation similar to yours.

Together we can see whether this can be completed so that it works as it should again.

Can you send me a screenshot of your outgoing SMTP server settings for email use? This is probably installed in your Thunderbird software on your desktop.

Hi. I have used Thunderbird for a long time. I have never had a problem accessing my hotmail account for emails. Overnight Thunderbird now posts error message boxes when trying to login to the hotmail server. It reports incorrect username or password. Neither has been changed by me and comparison with Eset Password Manager shows them to be correct. I can login to Outlook online using the same login credentials an get my emails that way. I have also changed my Outlook hotmail password while logged in in my browser and updated everything on the PC to match of course.

I have massaged the server Settings for hotmail and have had the system working again, for a while. Twice I have reset the settings to a different server and back again and that seems to clear the problem for a while. Then the error messages switch on again consistently. At this moment using "File" -> "Get New Messages For:" -> "Hotmail" works without any problem and the automatic scheduled checking reports "No messages to download" so it appears to be working. But that is after just coming back to my PC to find a string of failed attempts, each with its own error box, which have appeared since I last "fixed" the problem and assumed it was now fine.

My server settings are Type: POP; Name: pop-mail.outlook.com; Port: 995; Username: same as for browser access (which works); Password: As in Thunderbird's stored passwords matching Password Manager and working browser access.

In my paranoia I have even wondered if I am being locked out by Microsoft somehow. Can anyone suggest what is going on here?

Several updates ago, Thunderbird does not seem to be able to correctly mark each message as "read". This issue did not seem to occur with any frequency some months ago (>1%), but since upgrading to the latest versions this error now occurs with a decent percentage of emails (~10%).

Automatic marking of emails as "read" after being viewed for some time does not work on these emails; I can be sitting waiting for several minutes, and these emails are never marked as "read" despite most other emails being correctly marked as they are viewed, typically within seconds.

Manually marking these emails as "read" does not always work either; these messages are quickly reverted back to "unread" status, and it can take several attempts (and a couple minutes) to mark an individual message as "read".

It appears that the latest updates have changed the way these read/unread flags are handled and communicated with the mail server, in a way that is not consistent from one message to the next.
