I have many bookmarks in Safari that I do not wish to transfer to Firefox, but that I don't want delete from Safari. How can I import selected bookmarks and bookmark folders only

I am not sure there is a way to do that. What you export from Safari is a Safari related not a Firefox question.

Again not really Firefox but note that the files exported and imported are HTML, many Word Processors are able to edit such files. It is easy to edit the file before importing it.
