It recently happens every time I use Firefox (not at the startup but sometime after): suddenly, everything freezes than the browser crashes.

Have you read the article that i suggested you ?

It could be an out-of-memory issue.

How much memory is Firefox using?

Are there any (HTML5) media files playing?

more options

Yes Debapriyo. I've read this article. I have an outdated VLC plugin and I can't update it without updating the whole OS because I am using Ubuntu 12.04 ; so I've disabled it.. I should wait & see if the problem is resolved. May I use another plugin replacing VLC?

more options

Cor-el, I don't know how much memory Firefox is using but there aren't HTML media files playing while it crashes.

you can try starting firefox in compatibility mode - Windows XP (Service Pack 3)", might work.

The OP is on Linux like posted above, so that isn't possible.
