History will not clear using Firefox under Mac OS 10.9.2
Cannot clear the history. No matter what I do, I'm stuck with junk left over in the History drop-down (Sears and Lowes sites always show up). Tried uninstalling/reinstalling without success. The same sites still show up. Tried going to ~Library/Application Support/Firefox but that folder doesn't exist. How can I clear my history, and more importantly be certain my computer is not being loaded up with retained junk left behind by the browser?

Sorry. No joy. Went through all the steps in that article as a first step prior to posting.
Have you tried to fix the places file in case its corrupt?
In Mac OS X v10.7 and later, the ~/Library folder is a hidden folder.
You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:
- Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
- /Users/<user>/Library/Application Support/Firefox/Profiles/<profile>/
Thank you. That let me get into the Firefox folder in the Library. However, I don't understand the folder contents well enough to know what to delete or change to correct the Firefox problem.
Can I uninstall Firefox, then delete anything that remains behind in the Library Firefox folder? That's about the only thing I can think to try at this point.
You can create a new profile, this action will create a new files and a new history, but if you want reinstall Firefox, no problem, this will clear your history too:
Did you see the article I linked?
That had the files to delete and a solution to fix undeletable history.
You can check the places.sqlite database.
Remove all places.sqlite file(s) in the Firefox profile folder to make Firefox rebuild the places.sqlite database from the most recent JSON backup (bookmarks-####-##-##_xx.json) in the bookmarkbackups folder.
