It sounds as though the certificates have gotten a little mixed up...

When you have a problem with one particular site, a good "first thing to try" is clearing your Firefox cache and deleting your saved cookies for the site.

(1) Clear Firefox's Cache

Firefox menu > Preferences > Advanced

On the Network mini-tab > Cached Web Content : "Clear Now"

If you have a large hard drive, this might take a few minutes.

(2) Remove the site's cookies (save any pending work first). While viewing a page on yahoo.com (secure or insecure), try either:

  • right-click and choose View Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"
  • Tools menu > Page Info > Security > "View Cookies"

In the dialog that opens, you can remove the site's cookies individually.

If you can't open a page on yahoo.com, you can open the dialog on this site and change the site in the search box at the top of the dialog to yahoo.com.

Then try reloading the page. Does that help?

Is there anything unusual about how Firefox connects to websites? You can check for a custom setting here:

Firefox menu > Preferences > Advanced > Network mini-tab > "Settings" button

The default setting likely is "Use system proxy settings" but you also could try "No proxy".

In case one of your extensions is changing how Firefox connects, you could try Yahoo! in Firefox's Safe Mode.

You can restart Firefox in Safe Mode using

Help > Restart with Add-ons Disabled

In the dialog, click "Start in Safe Mode" (not Reset)

Any difference?

If this only affects Yahoo! mail perhaps I should have started with the "old bookmark" problem. As you know, Yahoo has made lots of changes in its mail, including changing servers. While you should be redirected to the correct server, this is not happening consistently. So try this:

(1) Copy the working Yahoo! mail address from the Chrome address bar and paste it into the Firefox address bar. Does that load the mailbox correctly? If so, bookmark that and delete your old one.

(2) Try accessing your mail through one of these pages instead, so that Yahoo! redirects you to the latest server for your account:
