Financial Sites keep asking for my Activation Code with FF 22.0 and Roboform 7.9.0.0

When I log into a financial site with RoboForm it works fine the first time. Then when I try the next day to use the same method to log into the same site; it says I need a new Activation Code to identify my computer. Is there a Firefox setting I can change so this does not happen?

Whatever you can recommend that would solve this problem would be great since my job requires me to log into these same sites every day.

Sometimes a problem with Firefox may be a result of malware installed on your computer, that you may not be aware of.

You can try these free programs to scan for malware, which work with your existing antivirus software:

Microsoft Security Essentials is a good permanent antivirus for Windows 7/Vista/XP if you don't already have one.

Further information can be found in the Troubleshoot Firefox issues caused by malware article.

I ran the malwae scans and nothing was found.

Maybe I didn't explain the problem well. Here's what happens -- basically the website (a financial site) wants to make sure that the computer i'm using is one they recognize. This happens most often when someone buys a new computer. I try to log onto the site and it does not alllow it. Instead it has a messsage saying that I need a new Activation Code and they can send it to me via email, text, etc. When I get the code I put it in and then I can sign on. But the next day when I try to sign on again, I get exactly the same error message, basically saying I need another Activation Code to identify the same computer (my home computer).

To me; it sounds like the Activation Code is not being stored by Firefox so that can be retrieved by the website.

Maybe I have changed a setting to cause this problem?

Would you recommend that I change all the Firefox settings back to their defaults? If so, how do I do that?

Or does it sound like there is something else I should do to fix the problem?

My thanks in advance,

/ Gary E.

Your reply was helpful in encouraging me to study more thoroughly the way to give a specific website more permissions.

First, I read the help section below:

Give Certain Websites the Ability to Store Passwords, Cookies and More… at the following URL:

https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/give-websites-ability-store-passwords-cookies-and-more

(You may have to do a search for the above site since I couldn't get the link to work in this editor. Sorry.)

and followed steps for: How do I open the Permissions Manager? Then, I changed the Permissions to Allow most of the items. I suspect that the one that solved the problem was “Maintain Offline Storage”.

But I also allowed:

  • Share Location
  • Sett Cookies
  • Open Pop-up Windows
  • Plugins

Anyway, these steps were successful for me and I suspect they will be hopefully for many other Firefox users that access financial websites including their bank accounts. / Gary E.
