Chosen solution

The places.sqlite file contains your bookmarks and history. If this file is missing or damaged, Firefox will restore the most recent bookmark backup.

The bookmarkbackups folder contains bookmark backups that Firefox creates automatically.

Both can be found in your profile folder. Do not delete either while Firefox is running.

Note that you can easily delete all bookmarks from the Library.

  1. In the Library window, click All Bookmarks on the left.
  2. In the search box in the top right, type in a colon :
  3. The search results are all of your bookmarks. Left-click a bookmark on the right side to select it.
  4. Press Ctrl+A or click the Organize button on the toolbar, then choose Select All.
  5. Press the Delete key, or click the Organize button on the toolbar, then choose Delete.
