Try to install Firefox again.

  1. obtain a fresh copy of the Firefox installer from
  2. Remove Firefox
Assuming you have no information on Firefox and it is not working you may remove both the Firefox profile files and the Firefox program files. (But no need to worry about any registry entries)
  3. Run the installer that you downloaded previously in step 1

You may need to check that security software is not blocking installation or update of Firefox. See also Firefox won't start - find solutions and if you are getting any error messages please say exactly what they are, or better still add a screenshot

Well, Firefox was working fine, until the update came through. Now it keeps telling me I need to reboot to complete a previous upgrade. I tried to uninstall, and get the same bloody message. I reboot, and get the same thing. I've rebooted my machine 8 times this morning trying to fix this thing. It won't budge. Using Chrome to write you this message. Very unhappy. :-/

You would have done better to start your own thread for the question using /questions/new

You could try to get rid of the current update that is causing a problem by deleting the relevant files active-update.xml updates.xml . See the old article:

Please postback with how you get on. If problems continue please start a new thread.

I tried that, but I don't have those files. I'll start another thread. Thanks. :-)

Try to run the Firefox program once as Administrator (right-click: Run as Administrator).
