I am running Firefox 15.0.1 I have researched your articles and came to the place where it is suggested to drag the Icon for that function and drop it into the customize section of the Bookmarks Tool bar. When I drop it in there the icon shows, BUT the instant I close the palette the new added icon on the taskbar is gone.

I have customized the bookmarks managing quite extensively. That is why the option of resetting it makes me panic, specially that I have lost bookmarks more than a couple times while upgrading FF versions.

I have set 20 folders where I have sorted hundreds of bookmarks.

My add-ons are: - Adblock Plus 2.1.2 - DblClicker 1.6.1 - Flashblock 1.5.15.1 - Java Console 6.0.33 - LastPass 2.0.0 - Lazarus Form Recovery 2.3 - RealPlayer Browser Record Plugin 15.0.6 - Rights to Close 1.0.4 - Tab Preview 0.3 - Tab Navigator 1.1

I added this list cause of the comment i read in here that there may be some conflict which could be producing my current problem.

What would you suggest may be affecting my Bookmarks button? And more importantly how do I fix it?

I would appreciate knowledgeable contributions to help me solve my isssue

Thank you kindly -

  • Press the F10 key or tap the Alt key to bring up the "Menu Bar" temporarily if the menu bar is hidden.
  • Use "Firefox > Options" instead of "Tools > Options" if the menu bar is hidden.

Firefox 4+ versions have two bookmark buttons with a star in the Customize window.
One star button has a drop marker that open a Bookmark menu.
The other star button without the drop marker opens the bookmarks in the sidebar.

You can drag the Bookmarks menu button with the drop marker in the Customize window from the toolbar palette on a toolbar (e.g. Navigation Toolbar or Tab Bar or to the left side of the Bookmarks Menu Items).

You only see the Bookmarks Menu button if the Menu bar with the Bookmarks menu is hidden (View > Toolbars or Firefox > Options).
If the Bookmarks Toolbar is visible then the Bookmarks Menu button is displayed on the Bookmarks Toolbar as part of the Bookmarks Toolbar Items (bookmarks), but you can move it from the right side to the left side of the Bookmarks toolbar if the Customize window is open.
Otherwise the Bookmarks Menu button will appear on the right side of the Navigation Toolbar.

If you mean the Bookmarks menu button with the drop down list then you only see that button if the Bookmarks Toolbar is hidden (View > Toolbars or Firefox > Options).

If you mean the button to open the bookmarks in the sidebar then open the Customize window.

  • View > Toolbars > Customize
  • Firefox > Options > Toolbar Layout
  • If missing items are in the toolbar palette then drag them back from the Customize window on the toolbar
  • If you do not see an item on a toolbar and in the toolbar palette then click the "Restore Default Set" button to restore the default toolbar set up

I have this problem also, and I need a very simple explanation of how to get the icon back.

Hi peggyp.

Do you mean the bookmarks menu button on the Navigation Toolbar that opens a drop down list with the bookmarks?

Do you have the Bookmarks Toolbar visible?

  • Firefox/Tools > Options : Bookmarks Toolbar

If that toolbar is visible then the Bookmarks Menu button should appear at the far right on that toolbar.

Can you attach a screenshot, so we can check your current setup?

Use a compressed image type like PNG or JPG to save the screenshot.

Any reference to Firefox on the screen was gone, ie to left or right and would not appear no matter what. Solved problem by restoring system to an earlier date before I loss references or downloaded the latest version of Firefox. It did work!

Did get your screen shot however had already done an earlier restore which cured the problem.

As mentioned nothing relative to Firefox was visible any longer nor could I make anything appear so one could not use anything available in Firefox. So everything is working now.
