how do you get a new tab to come up as a blank page

i want a new tab to come up as a blank page, like it used to. I dont want a bunch of boxes with past web pages. I cant find a way to do this. i would hate to have to go back to ie. HELP

You can set the String pref browser.newtab.url to "about:blank" on the about:config page.
