After logging in as a new windows user, everything reset, including Firefox. I lost all my bookmarks.

Recently my network lost contact with my NAS. At roughly the same time, my PC spontaneously started making me log in, not as Rich, but as Administrator. I told a friend of mine in IT about these issues, and he suggested logging back in as Rich. I tried that, but something happened, and somehow the Administrator user disappeared and my username had changed to Rich/Administrator. I have had no luck re-creating a plain Rich and a plain Administrator account.

Anyway, when I finally booted up, I discovered that all my settings had been trashed and returned to the defaults. At the same time, Firefox started installing its latest version. Among all my other settings that went to default, so did my bookmarks disappear. I've tried everything to locate my bookmarks, but to no avail.

Please advise.

the firefox settings are per default always saved in the context of the logged-in user, in the profile folder. in your case it would originally have been on your system drive under C:\Documents and Settings\Rich\Application Data\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\(random characters).default\ - can you still access this folder on your pc? if so you can restore your data to your current profile...
