I'm seeing Firefox hang when using Google Maps. Specifically when switching to the Google Earth option on Google Maps. The problem is most likely to happen during rotations to view the horizon but can also crash when just moving around.

I didn't used to have this problem on older Firefox versions (3.x) and the problem currently does not occur on Google Chrome or IE9.

I think it may have something to do with OpenGL since it's using 3D rendering. I am using Windows 7 with an NVIDIA GeForce 8800 and have updated the drivers to see if that fixed it but to no effect.

Could Google be pulling a Microsoft and making it so the app does not work well? Not my real question, just thinking out loud.

Real question is does anyone else see this problem?

Details: Windows 7 Firefox 10.0.2 8GB RAM Dual Monitor (occurs on either monitor) GeForce 8800 latest drivers

Problem varies from just a hang with the everlasting blue circle or Firefox on some occasions just exits during navigation.

To reproduce just go to http://maps.google.com and then switch to Earth mode. Zoom in as close as you can to the terrain and rotate around to view the horizon. Then move around till crash occurs.

Thanks Darv

Does the issue still occur if you start Firefox in Safe Mode?

Swarnava,

Did indeed. Seems one of my add-ons must be causing the problems. Guess it's just a process of elimination at this point.

Thanks Darv

Problem seems to be related to the add-on RightToClick 2.8.9.

When I turn it on, no other add-ons, Google Earth seems to hang though I have yet to reproduce the crash to the desktop.

Hope this helps others.

Let me know if you are unable to reproduce it. I still have a number of add-ons turned off but it was when I switched RightToClick on that the problems returned. I switched it on an off several times and every time it was on, Google Earth would just stop dead in it's tracks after a bit of navigating.

Thanks for the prompt reply. Darv
