How do I make Firefox 9 stop loading three old tabs (acknowledging successful installations of add-ons) each time it starts up?

I have tried clearing the cache, uninstalling the add-ons, and restarting. I have also tried in Options/General/Startup to change the startup page, but the change is not being saved. Upgrading to higher versions of Firefox did not cure the problem. Other suggestions posted on the Web did not work either. The three tabs that keep coming back are: Welcome to Saved Password Editor, Thank you for updating Reminder Fox, and Thank you for installing Colorful Tabs. I need the first two add-ons, so please do not suggest erasing them completely. Thank you in advance!

Did you try the instruction the the preferences not saved article and removed all prefs files like prefs.js and prefs-##.js and a possible user.js file in the Firefox Profile Folder?

You can use this button to go to the Firefox profile folder:

Why not just change your home page back to what you want it to be? Options > General.

Thank you very much, cor-el! Renaming the prefs.js and user.js to prefs.jsOLD and user.jsOLD solved the problem of the tabs.

Now, I still have three additional problems with Firefox version 9: 1. Before loading the browser, FF conducts a compatibility check for all the add-ons even though the about:config setting for compatibility is false. 2. The Edit/Find field is missing. 3. The Firefox parent menu ("Firefox" on an orange background) is not showing as the space is taken by the Menu bar.

1. It is possible that there is a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.

Delete the files extensions.* (e.g. extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini, extensions.cache) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.

New files will be created when required.

See "Corrupt extension files":

If you see disabled, not compatible, extensions in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left side of the Search Bar (or click the "Find Updates" button in older Firefox versions) to do a compatibility check or see if there is a compatibility update available.

2. What do you mean with "The Edit/Find field is missing". Doesn't the Find bar open if you choose that menu item or use Ctrl+F?

3. You need to hide the menu bar (View > Toolbars) if you want the orange Firefox button.

more options

1. The removal of extension.ini caused additional problems and I had to restore it. However, the removal of the extensions.squilte and extensions.cache indeed solved the problem with the add-ons compatibility check. 2. From the top menu Edit/Find is not functioning. It used to open if I selected that menu item in FF 6.02. I gather it must be one of the add-ons that is causing this problem. I haven't succeeded yet pinning down that add-on. In previous versions, there used to be an add-on that toggled it on upon start up, but I could not find it. 3. Thanks!
