how do I get rid of an unwanted toolbar

I have a toolbar from shopathome.com that I did not request and do not want. (This should be something that is not allowed by virtue of following good business practices). How can I delete it?

The toolbar is an extension that was added to Firefox. To remove it: Disabling an add-on will turn it off without removing it:

  1. At the top of the Firefox window, click on the Firefox button and then click Add-ons. The Add-ons Manager tab will open.
  2. In the Add-ons Manager tab, select the Extensions panel.
  3. Select the add-on you wish to remove.
  4. Click the remove button.
  5. Click Restart now if it pops up. Your tabs will be saved and restored after the restart.

Sometimes, because of the way certain extensions are installed you might just have a "disable" button instead of a remove button. Disabling will also work. In that case you might also want to follow the instructions in Cannot remove an add-on (extension or theme).
