Findmypast (geneology site) can only download media at a fast rate by installing their plug-in; but then it doesn't work. The site seems to be telling me it can only work with a 32 bit browser. I have the latest Firefox so I presume it is 64 bit. Can i download/use both 32 and 64 and use either?

Hi, Ian from findmypast here. Sorry this is causing you problems - unfortunately there are quite a few applications on the internet that have not yet made the transition to 64-bit, and DjVu (the technology behind our advanced image viewer) is one. There are 2 basic options open to you:

1. user the viewer in 32-bit mode, as already helpfully described by another user (a bit fiddly but works well, if you remember - has the advantage of not using as much memory as 64-bit mode!) 2. switch to our standard viewer which is (for now) Flash-based - on the majority of records, you'd be hard pressed to notice a difference in download speed between the two different viewers unless you're on a slow connection.

Finally, some helpful notes on image viewing here: http://www.findmypast.co.uk/help-and-advice/faqs/djVu-viewer and of you ever have problems with the site, it is always worth getting in touch with our Customer Support team - http://www.findmypast.co.uk/content/contact-us

Hope that helps.

hi

Do you work for findmypast?

Anyway, changing 64 to 32 bit isn't a problem; the instructions are easy to follow, but, it makes no difference.

I do live a long way from the exchange I'm afraid. Surely I can't be the only Mac user not to be able to use djvu for the purpose of viewing media on findmypast more quickly. I can download it, but findmypast does not seem to recognise it. The instructions say that 2 icons should appear on my desktop, but only one ever appears. help
