How in the world do I get rid of all these advertisments that crop up since I upgraded to Firefox 8, which apparently was a big mistake.
By e-mail I was admonished to upgrade to Firefox 8, which I did. After that all my problems began. My Mcafee told me my computer was at risk and I get all these advertisements on my web pages. I simply wanted to upgrade if necessary, and I wish to cancel the upgrade it that is possible. I do not intend to use my computer as an advertisement and to not be able to do the things I need and want. Help me get out of this junk.

We do not send updates with emails. These emails are always scams and are sent by criminals who want to infect your computer with malware.
You can do a malware check with some malware scanning programs.
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

I now realize the two big ads I saw on my desktop one morning on my new Mac for Netflix and Mac something were because I installed Firefox 8.0 Yes I have pop-ups checked and no they didn't have menu bars as I remember.
The e mail wa from Yahoo search.com - - which said Yahoo recommends that you upgrade to Firefox 8. I believed that to be a legitimate email Is that Not So?
But where did you get Firefox? You should download it only from Mozilla. You can get a legitimate build here:
