Help! Firefox started locking up today.

I'm using 3.0.6 Firefox on a desktop. It's been working great and I really like the browser. Today Firefox started crashing after 10 minutes or so. I'm in the process of isolating possible websites that might be the problem. My questions are; 1.) Has Firefox released a version in the past couple days that might cause problems with my version? 2) I'm still running 3.0.6 because I haven't been able to successfully install Windows Service Pack 3 and haven't been able to get the other versions of Firefox to load successfully. Can you tell me if there is a newer version that will install with Service Pack 2? Should the newest version of Firefox install on Service Pack 2? Do you know what the problem might be with the crashing of My Firefox 3.0.6? The problem just started today. Is there something I can do to rebuild my version 3.0.6 on my computer? I read the note on your site for the security concerns for the 3.0.6. Please suggest a newer version that I can load on Service Pack 2 that would provide max security. Really appreciate your help.
