Firefox stays on home page after attempting to load any website. No error message is given

Any web address typed into the address bar results in a momentery connecting message in the tab. Then it stops and remains on home page. Uninstalling and reinstalling has not fixed the problem. Internet explorer is able to load all websites normally.
