One of the improvements touted in Firefox 7 is better memory usage, in particular cases like this. I suggest updating to Firefox 7.0.1 now that it is available and see how that helps. If you're still having problems after that, it's also possible one of the addons you have installed may be causing this problem so you might want to try troubleshooting your addons too.
