Firefox crashes with Outlook Web Access. Is there a problem with Quicktime or Firefox?
When I upgraded to Firefox 4.0, I had this problem as well, and rolled back to 3.6. Then I upgraded to 5.0, hoping it had been fixed, but to no avail. I'm on a Mac (snow leopard), and the problem generally occurs when I try to access my work email (Outlook Web Access). I get a box telling me I need to update some Quicktime component, but it never specifies what. (And my installation of Quicktime seems to be up to date.) It will sometimes allow me to ignore the error, but most of the time it just crashes.

I asked my service provider and he had a solution. Apparently, the format of the audio file OWA sends when notifying the receipt of a new message is not understood by the default quicktime plugin. A work around is to disable the option to have a sound played when receiving new email ("Play a sound when new items arrive"). It can be found under Options | Settings, tab Mail.
If we can just find out which audio format is used by OWA, it would be possible to determine the right plugin and have the option active again, without crashes or redirects.

Thank you! There was a similar setting for sounds for calendar alerts that I had to disable as well, but this fixed it. Hooray!
