The new 5.0 does not support the fox tab feature that I love and I need a similar compatible add on -- which do you suggest?

I just uploaded firefox 5.0, which does not support the top sites feature I've used so happily. Is there a similar add on that does work with 5.0? I feel like I'm blind!

The author of the Fox Tab extension has released version 1.4.3 which does, in fact, work with Firefox 5. It hasn't been formally reviewed yet, which is why you don't see it in the extension gallery by default. To get to it, click below:

https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/foxtab/versions/ lets me "download" but doesn't open; when Firefox restarts it just takes me back to the original download site, and gives me no options? (Thanks, though)

Hmm, worked fine here. The process for me was:

  1. Open the above mentioned link
  2. Click the yellow "Add to Firefox" button (it says "Not Reviewed" beneath it)
  3. A small pop-up window appears in the page advising the user to exercise caution and, in itself, contains a blue "Add to Firefox" button. Click it.

After that, I installed the add-on just like any other and Fox Tab was imediately available after restarting.

It occurs to me though that you may need to specifically uninstall the old version of Fox Tab and restart Firefox before going through the above procedure.

As far as I know, everything is uninstalled -- I just updated to 5.0 and it said it couldn't add the fox tab because it is unsupported. Perhaps I need help on the part after step 3 -- After I click the Add to firefox button, the box with the install button comes up. The INSTALL button is pressed, and then I'm sent - instantly - BACK to the page that starts with step 1.

That's odd. Does it work if you click on the direct download link below?

I get a box that says Firefox prevented this site from asking you install software on your computer. I click on ALLOW, and the box from your step 1 shows up. I do the steps, up to 3, then I click on Install, then a box pops up that says it will be installed when Firefox is restarted. I click on RESTART NOW, and get sent back to the screen from step 1.

That actually sounds as though it installed succesfully. Check the list of installed extensions by clicking the "Firefox" button in the top-left corner then clicking the "Add-ons" link in the menu that appears. Do you see Fox Tab in the list of installed extensions?

GOT IT! Thanks. It was not on the page, but rather buried in the toolbar options. I clicked on tools, options, and it was there. Thanks.

I have a slightly different problem. When I click on a new tab, foxtabs flashes on the screen, then the window goes blank!! When I click on another and another window, it does the same...!! When I backtrack to each of the newly opened tabs, foxtab is there, but not on the newest screen!?!?!?!!? When I try this "trick" again, the most recent tab eventually does show foxtabs!! What's going on that this feature is taking so long NOW, and was perfectly fine yesterday!?!?!
