Can't get bookmarks moved. Been through Profiles changes, tried importing. MacBook Pro running OS 10.6.7

Upgrading to Firefox 4 on a new MacBook Pro. Lost bookmarks. Followed instructions in "Solutions." Several times. Then uninstalled everything and reinstalled 4. Created html files from old laptop for both FF and bookmarks. FF 4 goes through the motions of importing the bookmarks but nothing shows up.
