Hello everyone,

First of all I would like to say that I love Thunderbird! I am also not very IT literate when it comes to manipulating software or using the correct language so please bear with me, I find these a bit overwhelming.

I was hoping someone could help me with with my calendar, I have tried to change settings on other software and it went terribly wrong and I don't want a repeat. I have read the various help files but it doesn't make much sense to me :(

I have a domain with Dynadot for my website and email, it's basic but does the job for my small business. It has IMAP abilities and an autoreply but that's about it- there's no calendar app but does have an email app... just. On my Windows laptop I use Thunderbird for all emails and calendar requirements which is great when I'm using my laptop. However, I do meet with participants and don't always use my laptop so I need a way to be able to view and book appointments using my andriod phone.

I also have a member of staff who needs access to my calendar and be able to book appointments for me and vice versa. As we are both out and about a lot the calendars need to be "live" and easy to reach, much like the paid for Outlook shared calendar.

At the moment my member of staff doesn't use Thunderbird as their main software, they have Outlook. We did try another email/calendar app but their shared calendars were just links that we had to save and keep logging into, it was a nightmare and without the updating we had some double-bookings. I don't want to go through that again, it was embarassing.

I would greatly appreiciate your wisdom in how I can resolve my issue and easy step by step guidance on how to do it properly. I am the type of person who will get locked out of everything!

Best wishes Rebecca

Chosen solution

All I meant was that if someone sends me a Teams/ Zoom/ Meeting appointment via email, I usually read them in Thunderbird, then click on the agree/ yes to this meeting and all the information is populated on my Thunderbird calendar but now I'll need it to go to the Google calendar instead.

You have been a huge help David, thank you. This is just one of those small but annoying things- particularly when one doesn't know what one is doing! Personally, I still prefer pen and paper

My suggestion: - use the Google calendar. You can set it up at https://calendar.google.com/calendar. - while there, you can authorize others to edit and administer the calendar - in android phone, you have easy access to the calendar - in thunderbird, click the spaces button in top left and then the calendar button and from that pane, you can add the google calendar so you can access from within Thunderbird.

Hi David,

Thank you for replying to my question. May I ask you another please? How do I make sure that when I get an appointment from my email (through Thunderbird) that it goes to the Google calendar?

Best wishes Rebecca

I use the calendar only through Google, so I cannot give a good answer. Thunderbird does have the ability to send reminders at your preference ahead of the event. Also, I"m not aware of why you receive an email of a scheduled event? Maybe I'm misunderstanding. BUT, I am not the calendar guru, just a user.

I think it will work okay; I just don't use the feature enough to confirm. I do think, though, that the first time it happens that you will find how it works. I receive similar emails but I have usually already set the calendar. I was glad to be of some assistance to you .

When you accept an invitation, it is added to the calendar that is currently selected in the left pane of the Calendar tab. Similarly, when you send an invitation, it is sent from the account that is set in the calendar's Properties, available from the context menu. I suggest you send and receive a few test invitations to confirm the behaviour.
