I'm listing this as a privacy setting because when I click the microphone button in WhatsApp web to enable audio input, there's a green popup telling me to select "Allow" in the box above, but that box above is flashing wildly and there's no way to click on anything. It appears and disappears about 10 times per second, and no matter how many times I try to click on "Allow" I can't catch it. It seems to progressively get slower as it ... what? runs out of breath? And the only remedy is to kill the WhatsApp window and start it up again, and to give up on using the microphone. Anyone else experience this or know what to do? I have confirmed that the mic is working, in other apps (Audacity), and it shows up in system settings properly. Thanks.

Don't use Whatsapp, but it's the same for any site asking permission and it works fine for me. see screenshot

Did you tried Firefox in Safe Mode? https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/diagnose-firefox-issues-using-troubleshoot-mode#search

Try downloading Firefox from Mozilla. Download, unzip, and run firefox-bin from the folder and see if you have the same issue.

Try using Firefox permissions. Open the Page info window (ctl+i) and on the Permissions tab scroll down to Use the microphone and select Allow.
