My computer crashed and I had to reset my account. For some reason the password that I was 99% sure was correct didn't work so in order to change my password it said I need an authentication key. I didn't recall getting one of those so I reset my password (even though it said on the screen I would only lose things like passwords and history). I of course lost all my bookmarks that I've been collecting for the last 20 years. And as life goes I've now found the authentication key. My question is can I get anything back now that I have that key or all my bookmarks are forever deleted?

Authentication keys or resets are sent to the registered Primary email to reset accounts. If that doesn't work there's not much Firefox forum users can help here. And if you reset the computer itself and didn't backup any data including Firefox data then everything is gone with the computer restore. The only other way to restore your bookmark or login in the Browser is if there was sync set to another device otherwise if you restore your computer from last working image or reinstalled everything past that time would be gone as results of that.
