No idea, perhaps your mouse has a flat battery?

re :I click to delete

How exactly are you doing this? What method are you using? 1. Select email so you see contents in Message Pane Click on the 'Delete' button which is displaying in the header area.

2. Select email so you see contents in Message Pane Click on the 'Delete' key on keyboard

3. Right click on email in list and select 'Delete Message' from the drop down options.

4. Have you enabled the 'Delete' column header, so you are clicking on the 'bin' icon for a particular message in list?

5. Do you have sort by 'Threading' selected ? If you select the top level thread, it would display a brief section of each email in the thread as Subject name X messages If you then click on Delete button all the emails in the thread would be deleted.

Are you using a Mouse or Touchpad ? Possible Mouse issues - you click once, but mouse send message to computer that it has received two clicks, so it performs same delete on the email selected and then again on the auto selected email below. Hence deleting two emails.

In this instance the problem is always caused by either the user or the mouse. It's not the code in Thunderbird.

The 'two clicks' which computer has registered could be caused by:

  • a slight tremble of hand - use 'Mouse Settings' to adjust timing to suit your needs.
  • A sticky or dirty mouse button can cause you to double-click, even if you've only clicked the mouse button once. Clean the mouse, trackpad, remove dirt from keyboard.
  • Sensitive 'double-click' - Adjust double-click speed of your mouse - done via 'Mouse Settings' on computer.
  • Another cause of a mouse double-clicking on a single click is poor communication between your mouse and computer. This usually happens for one of two reasons: a dying battery or interference. These are both problems unique to wireless mice.

Test using a different (and ideally wired) mouse.

Question: Is this a gmail imap account ? When you say it deletes 2 emails - are those emails identical, but perhaps in different folders eg: in 'Inbox' and 'Important' ? When you delete the one in the 'Inbox' it goes to the gmail Trash folder, the one in the 'Important' folder also is deleted ?

If yes, that's because you selected to delete the email and in gmail there is only the one email stored in the 'All Mail' folder. You deleted it, so gmail remove all labels and deletes the email. Hence, email cannot display in any folder if it does not exist.

I am experiencing the same issue. I'll address the issues above. The emails are in my INBOX. I am using an IMAP account on Optimum (optonline.net account)

I have tried using two methods for deleting the emails 1. Select the email and press the DELETE key on my keyboard 2. Select the email and click the DELETE button in Thunderbird.

In both cases the email I select and the NEXT email in the INBOX are BOTH removed. I have gone on subsequent searches to find the email in the Trash and Archive folders but it is not there.

I have tried to perform an UNDO but the emails are not restored.

I have attempted a restart of Thunderbird and in MOST cases the erroneously deleted email will reappear in my inbox. I stress 'most' because there are some emails I have lost permanently and have not been able to recover.

Hi I have a similar (if not the same) problem. This cant be just me as I have experienced the same problem on various devices.

Scenario:

  • I select an email that I want to delete by selecting(one left mouse) - highlights the message in the inbox.
  • Press the small delete button
  • The message goes to my Deleted file
  • Then... one, two or more emails above the one deleted also disappear into the Deleted file.

I can go into the deleted file and find them, then move back into my Inbox, but this has been doing this for so long and it is truly annoying as some important emails went in this morning and I almost Emptied my Deleted file.

Mozilla Thunderbird staff - Can you look into this bug please and rectify if at all possible. I love the platform for my multiple email accounts but this is a really annoying bug which only reduces the excellent quality of your product.

Hope this helps.

Kind Regards, Martyn

Here is the problem as I have occasionally encountered it. When I click a second message anywhere in the inbox, the previously selected message remains highlighted, as if I was holding down the Ctrl key. Therefore, if I then click Delete both messages get deleted. Since it doesn't always happen I'm unsure if it's a Thunderbird problem or if my keyboard is going bad.
